PICTURE DESCRIPTION PRICE
salt debi302 Small metal fish is quite heavy despite the fact the bottom is hollowed out. It's probably meant as a combination salt dip and knife rest. The tail would work well for that purpose. The salt area is tiny though, only 1" long by 5/8" wide. It's unmarked but seems to be silver over brass with a bit of wear. Overall length is 3" to the tip of the tail.

salt debi309 This really looks old and crudely made but it's impressed "China" on the bottom and I don't know what time frame that means. It's slightly out of round and is about 2-1/4" diameter at the largest point. Top opening is just over 1-1/2". It has a rose bowl appearance if you gravitate towards that shape. The blue enamel is painted onto the background of the objects. The enamel is rough in some places. Doesn't look like it cracked and came off, more like it was heated too high and burned. Whatever it is, it isn't perfect so the lower price for a pretty scarce piece.

salt debi314 Selling part of the farm! Some of the animals have to go to new homes. This cute double of two sleepy pigs in a very life-like color is joined by a brown glazed ring handle. There's no damage although there is some crazing of the glaze that can be seen in the larger image by clicking on the picture. Not marked, but probably European made. It came from France. It is 3-3/4" long.

salt debi316 Modeled after the salt and pepper usually found in white milk glass, but this is pottery. Not signed but the coloring reminds me somewhat of the Quimper Odetta glazes that were produced for a very short time. It almost has a rusted look. Excellent condition.

salt debi317 A pair of hugging chickens! Cute double of perfect white porcelain hens marked "Limoges" over "France" in green. 6-1/4" long from tail to tail by 2" wide by just under 2-1/4" high. Perfect condition.

salt debi318 Same shape and size as an intaglio, but a brilliant cobalt blue and, as you can see, no picture on the bottom. Just the few small nicks on the inner rim so common with these, so I'd call it very good condition. Top and bottom are polished.

salt debi320 Smith 335-1-1 Shape
One chip on a corner column is the only thing worth mentioning. The rest is the usual little nicks found on edges and rims. Surprisingly, the inside rim is perfect. The small chips are from clinking against other things over the years. Pretty hard to find in colors. Measures 2-1/2" square.

salt debi322 OSC 149
The rare holder and yellow opalescent glass salt are in perfect condition. A little polishing is necessary though. The spoon is not original, but it's a nice fit. It is an odd spoon though because the decoration is on the back of the handle and the front is completely plain.

salt debi324 Very nice cobalt glass with silver deposit picturing a gondola. The glass is perfect and there is only a small amount of wear on the silver as can be seen in the larger view. This looks wonderful in a stand among other cobalt glass. Bottom is polished. Measures 3-1/4" across.

salt debi329 Jasperware style but this is a bit glossier finish on the outside, not the typical matte finish. The inside is very glossy white. This is wonderfully marked but a bit hard to make out. It's "Dudson Brothers, Hanley, England." Mint condition.

salt debi330 Classic Wedgewood blue color with that very detailed leaves, vine and grapes applique band. Wedgwood markings including initials that are probably the artist. Mint condition. My closeup shows that it's in need of some cleaning.

salt debi337  salt debi337a Solid pewter individual salt is marked with a C in a circle. I think this stands for Craftsman or something similar. I have several of these and they were from a Philadelphia restaurant years ago. Only 1-3/8" high by 1-3/4" at widest diameter.

salt debi344  salt debi344a These well done replicas of old trencher style salts have really picked up interest in the last several years. Just saw one recently listed for almost $60 with hefty shipping charges. This one is mint and well priced.

salt debi347  salt debi347a A little while back I found a plain pair of these and had a feeling they were extremely old. They seemed quite crudely made. Now along comes a pair exactly the same but with the green handpainting seen on old creamware or yelloware of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. In fact, the pair of these is pictured with many other old green decorated pieces and I have the picture to email if anyone would like to see it. This has several chips along the rim and on on the top of the base but no cracks. Pictures are the front and back of the same salt. It measures 3-1/4" long by 2" wide by 1-3/4" high. This is pictured somewhere in Smith with red, and if anyone spots it, please let me know!

salt debi348  salt debi348a H&J 1698
Wonderful little blue and white transferware condiment set. It's English c.1890 and in excellent condition right down to the mustard lid. There is overall crazing you find on most old china, but no chips or cracks. The 2-1/8" high shaker has no stopper. The plate is 5-1/4" diameter. No maker marks.

salt debi353  salt debi353a  salt debi353b $16.00
Probably from a child's toy set, but if you like covered salts, this would fit in nicely. It is a very nice quality and is marked "Porcelain Art" in blue. All three pieces in excellent condition. The base platter and bowl both have the mark. The pattern is pink Roses with some blue Forget-Me-Nots and green leaves. Platter measures 3-3/8" long by 2-1/2" wide. Opening in the handled bowl is 1-3/4" long by 1-3/8" wide. No chips, nicks or cracks.

salt debi354  salt debi354a  salt debi354b  salt debi354c  $25.00
Very heavy and very high quality crystal salt. Just acquired another pair in the original box. One has a round gold sticker that says "Cristallerie Lorraine" with the Cross of Lorraine symbol, so the French maker is definitely known. I would rate it along the same standards as the more expensive and heavy Dorflinger American cut glass from the early 1900s. Condition is near perfect. There is a very small nick on a side I found with a loupe. The salt measures just under 2" square by 1-1/8" high. Here's another view from the top.
(354)
salt debi355  salt debi355a  salt debi355b  salt debi355c $40.00
Very old French faience trencher but not without some obvious problems. Too bad there's one large chip off an end. Otherwise it's probably appropriate wear for a much used and very old piece, possibly back to 1750s. Here's the bottom view. Another piece straight from France.
(355)
salt debi362  salt debi362a Hand painted Limoges salt has blue and yellow contemporary style flowers on the top part and green at the bottom. Quite an attractive and different color combination. The rim is brass I believe and the entire piece is free of any damage. The mark is also shown. It measures 2" diameter by 1-3/8" high.

salt debi364  salt debi364a This might be something very uncommon in the world of Nippon by I really have no idea. I only know I've never seen another one. This salt is marked "Patent" below the green crown and "Nippon." The white glaze inside is not applied to the top 1/8" to 3/16" just below the gold top edge. (See the larger images for a better view.) You can't really see the difference very much because it's all white, but you can feel it. Don't know what the purpose of this was, but it is rather different, and it obviously did not catch on. Measures just over 2" diameter and only 7/8" high.Perfect condition.

salt debi366  salt debi366a I have only ever known this pattern on a small round salt, and have seen very few of those, but this is oval. I was lucky to find a pair of them. The glass is perfect but the silver deposit has a small amount of wear. Good news is that it's mostly on one side, so it still has a very nice display side. Both sides are shown. 1-13/16" long by 1-1/4" wide by 7/8" high.

salt debi368 Signed "Vallerysthal" blue salt with a large ram's head above a hooflike foot, repeated three times around. The large curled horns are very evident. It's in very good condition with no large chips, but does have a bit of nibbling along the rough mold lines and the feet. Measures 2-1/2" diameter by 1-1/2" high.

Very deep ruby red glass cut to clear in the form of seven six-pointed stars encircling the bowl. The sterling rim is hallmarked and is French. There is a 950 Minerva mark used as early as 1868, and also a diamond shaped maker's mark I have not been able to identify. Maybe someone with better eyesight can figure it out and find the mark on the 925 silver website linked to our website. The rim is perfect with just the slightest bumps where the hallmarks were applied. Although the glass is not marked, it's high quality and could be Sevres or Bacarrat or another quality French glass manufacturer. (Enlarged pictures emphasize white specks of lint and flash marks not actually present on the salt.) There is one tiny flaw in the glass on the very bottom of the salt where it's perfectly smooth and cut to clear. It is on the inside of the salt, not the outside. The spoon has a goldwashed bowl on front and back. (The spoon picture is of the backside.) The spoon has it's own set of maker's marks, one being the 950 Minerva mark again. I have the pictures but not the ID. The spoon is unique in that is has the same design on both sides - not stamped so that the back is the negative of the front, but rather both front and back have the same raised design. The spoon has a little kink in the handle near the bowl. Really an excellent and rare salt and spoon. Open salts like this with sterling rims are generally English made. French hallmarked rims are seldom found.
(369)
salt debi376 Impressed "England," this salt looks like it was in honor of Queen Elizabeth. The emblem is repeated on the backside and there's red and blue markings along the rim. Lots of crazing inside and out, but no chips or cracks, 2-1/2" diameter.

salt debi382  salt debi382a Burgundy or wine colored enamel on the inside of a hand hammered metal salt. They are unmarked so I don't know exactly what they are made of. But with the matching spoon this is a pretty neat little item. Salt is 1-7/8" diameter and spoon is 2-1/8" long with three sections filled with matching enamel. Perfect condition - white specks are flash. Two sets for sale, priced each. Also have one larger 4-1/2" diameter bowl for $5 if anyone is interested.

Hard to find chintz style salts - or whatever you decide they are - but perfect in salts collections. I found these all together years ago at a mall that had just put out a salt collection for sale. I couldn't bear to break them up. None are marked and are probably made in Japan. I think it's meant as a copy of the SPRINGTIME chintz pattern.

The newest open salts by Terry Crider. The basic color of all is called Golden Amber. There was much experimentation with this batch so many are unique. Some are encased colors of either cranberry or cobalt. On some the encased color is on the bottom and on others it's on the top. Some are darker and some are lighter. There are also two different white exterior designs on these. One called the Pinwheel Stripes and the other is Swirling Snowflakes. There is also an outside multi-colored iridescent swirl that is the same decoration used for the Toothpick Collectors convention souvenir in 2007 (Reminds me of Mardi Gras or confetti - very pretty!) All of them have what can only be described as a "Tiffany type" iridescence on the outside. In some pictures it's very evident and in others, it barely shows at all. Every salt is signed and dated 2009. Please order by number seen in the first picture of each group, and please read the descriptions. These were very hard to capture the true colors in photographs. (Each salt is in the same position in each group.) Each picture can be enlarged by clicking on it. The Crider salts below are $40 each even though the bi-colored ones were a bit more cost than the single colored ones. One final note...Some look much larger than others when there are two rows pictured together. It's only the camera perspective. You can see they are the same general size from the top views of each group. They are all salt size and if you have any measurement questions about a specific one, just ask.
