THE DREAM OF EVERY SALT COLLECTOR
One day, while on a trip, you happen to pass a
small out-of-the-way antique shop. As usual, your car automatically stops at
such shops. You already know that you shouldn’t expect much from a dingy little
shop, but “hope springs eternal…” so you enter the shop and begin to look
around. You notice some old things and some new. Everything is tightly packed,
so you have to move things to see all of the items in the store. You pass a few
common salts, labeled and priced properly.
Then, on a shelf behind some glass novelty boxes, you notice a familiar shape. Your heart starts beating rapidly as you carefully move the items in front of the little shape. It is a hand-painted, acid etched Daum Nancy salt in perfect condition. It is marked “dresser box” and labeled with a $10 price tag.
You carefully take the item, confirm its identity and quickly approach the counter to pay the $10 for an item worth one hundred times the price.
Isn’t that every salt collector’s dream?
“That Could Never Happen To Me!!” you say.
Yes, it can, but it doesn’t have to be in an obscure antique shop.
On June 26, 27 & 28, 2003, the Eighth National Salt Convention will take place in Cherry Hill, N.J. Two drawings will be conducted, the first for a Daum Nancy salt valued at $1,000 and the second for a Steuben Footed Amber Salt (valued at several hundred dollars) – all for an investment of $10 (five chances for $35). You need not be present to win. All proceeds will be used to offset convention costs to make the weekend as reasonable as possible for all participants who would like to attend.
In order to support the Convention and participate in the drawings for one of our two wonderful convention salts, please send your check made payable to Eighth National Open Salt Convention to Linda Kump, Convention Treasurer, for as many tickets as you desire. Make sure your address and telephone number appears on your check. The lucky winner, if not at the convention, will be called during the convention banquet to be told of his/her good fortune.
“THE ONLY PEOPLE GUARANTEED TO NEVER WIN ARE THOSE WHO NEVER TAKE A CHANCE.”
